Endoscopic middle ear and mastoid surgery is an exciting new way to have a middle ear operation. The endoscope allows a minimally invasive approach to middle ear and mastoid surgery and Mr Kelly uses these techniques almost exclusively for such surgery (myringoplasty, ossiculoplasaty, primary mastoid surgery for cholesteatoma, removal of middle ear tumours eg glomus tumours). Mr Kelly was trained by Professor Danielle Marchioni in an Endoscopic Middle ear Course in Glasgow in October 2015. Mr Kelly is one of few surgeons in the UK to carry out this type of surgery and he is convinced that EES (endoscopic ear surgery) is a major advance in middle ear and mastoid surgery. Mr Kelly has just obtained charitable funding (£54,000) in Leeds General Infirmary for a 4K state of the art Olympus endoscopic camera and video system which makes such surgery amazingly clear and accurate.
